Summer Series Part 4: Final List of Summer Fun

I've written about food and fun and family.  As I sit on the edge of August, a week and a half into the start of school, now seems like the perfect time to write about the future -- but to do that I first have to look back.

Notebook page with original list, June 2021

About halfway through June, I wrote a Summer Fun List.  I want to end my summer series by briefly touching on what I managed to cross off that list and what I may have to save for a future summer (or maybe just for fall).

Things I Accomplished: go for Loblolly Ice Cream, canoe or kayak trip, build a blanket fort, go out for breakfast, visit a lake, dance, paint, visit the ceramics place in town, mail cards.

I'm pretty pleased with the amount of times I got out and enjoyed nature -- especially considering how hot it gets here in the height of summer.  This was my first time taking out a kayak and I fell in love pretty quickly.  It makes me wish I had a place to store a kayak, but I guess for now I have to rely on occasional rentals.

I'm also happy that I got to enjoy creativity beyond writing.  Don't get me wrong, I did my fair share of writing this summer (40,000 words and counting on a new novel project), but I love having the chance to explore other creative avenues.  I should make time for dance, and paint, and baking, and all the rest more often.

Things Left Undone: take a miracle walk, blow bubbles, device free for a day, read-a-thon, wear an outfit you've been scared to, Yes Day!, visit an old friend, axe throwing, visit the Bark Bar.

Of course, I didn't get to everything on my list -- but many of the things left off are not limited by a season.  Taking a walk is easier to do in the spring or fall around here when the weather isn't awful.  And while I didn't do an official reading marathon, that doesn't mean reading didn't happen.  I can return to these listed items or not and I'll be fine either way.

And, best of all, school may have started back but technically summer doesn't actually end until mid-September.  There is still time to do some of these things, I just have to make the time for them.

  1. I love your look back! I made a list too and should see what items I could still do despite being in our fifth week of school- no seasonal/weather constraints here, just time and I should make sure to budget in fun!

  2. I wish I had made a summer fun to do list. I feel like this year I just let it wiz past me. But, like you said, you can still do fun things once summer ends. There's always tomorrow...

  3. What a lovely reflection on your lists of to do’s! I’m a list maker, too! I find that I’m always making lists about anything and everything! I sometimes even decorate my lists and use them in my memory keeping books. Loved your post!

  4. I love your list, and I'm glad you got to cross so many things off. It seems like every end-of-July I need to remind myself that going back to school doesn't mean I'll never have a free moment or day -- even though it might seem that way! There's still time to enjoy life if I make it happen!

  5. Although I'm miles and miles away, this series made me feel like I tagged along and spent some fine summer days with you. Will you make a list for autumn? I think I might.

What is a "miracle walk"? It sounds intriguing.

    1. It was something I saw on a list by Michelle H. so you'll need to ask her specifics. My understanding was it was the idea of going on a walk and at some point stopping and calling out to the universe to send you a miracle? It sounded neat when she mentioned it so I "borrowed" from her.

An autumn list is a good idea -- especially as a start a new notebook!

  6. I love this! And I'll bet (if I were a betting woman) that there might even be things that you were able to do that never found their way on your list to begin with. =))
