I saw many slicers reflecting and writing about the end of the SOLSC for this year. I didn't necessarily want to write a traditional top 10 list, so instead I gave myself the extra challenge of composing a poetic piece using words from every title of my slices for this month.
That's right.
What follows are 30 lines of poetry, each linking one of my slices from this month. I did not plan this ahead of time, so some lines were definitely more of a challenge, but I think this is a fitting end to a month of SOL writing as we move into what many consider to be a month of poetry writing.
I've really stretched myself as a writer these past 31 days and I am so excited that I get to own the honor of being a slicer for the full 31 days! This has been a thrill for me and I'm so glad I got to share this journey with all of you. Thank you.
A Series Of Titles Becomes A Slice Itself
It started with watching sticks race rivers in the rain;
We chased after them -- taking flight like a flock of flamingos.
The ideas fought us, swords sharp and ready to open old wounds.
We chased after them -- taking flight like a flock of flamingos.
The ideas fought us, swords sharp and ready to open old wounds.
We laughed at them -- matching weapons with wit and words -- a good pun.
We were free, because who was really watching?
We went on our way, a song on our lips,
but always ready to reach out across the expanse of space and time -- like penpals.
Today was the last of 31 days of writing,
like a package long awaited,
we tore into the box with wild abandon,
and we are either honored by this gift
Or as disappointed as though we had received nothing but plain socks.
This was a day in our life.
This was falling sideways into writing.
This was a brief exchange, shared.
What's more Spring than letting new writing flower on the page?
We were caught stealing the words, the poems, the pictures --
slices sucked straight out of the swoop of the orange peel,
small slivers that got caught between our teeth,
begging for any mean or mode of release.
Whether you stop at day one
or don't back down until the end.
Whether you were a hot button issue writer
or a writer casually sipping coffee at the keys.
Our writing required assembly,
we had each other's backs,
and we're never gonna give that up!

Just WOW! What a great idea. It all came together perfectly to encapsulate the experience of this challenge. Perfect last slice.
ReplyDeleteSo much good stuff in this slice, I don't even know where to begin! What a clever idea. "What's more spring than letting new writing flower on the page?" I hadn't thought of that... we welcomed Spring with our writing and there was a lot of growth.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! and all the links to your previous posts must have taken so much time!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite:
This was a slice.
This was a choir.
This was our turn, together.
Congrats on finishing 31 days! Loved writing with you this month!
A fun poem, it really sums up the month.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I love the way you wrote this as a fun poem. It was great getting to read your blog posts all month.
